Estates

A whole house, a whole glen.

For a family or a group of friends: an exclusive-use house on a Highland or island estate, with the people who make it work.

How it works

The house, the people, the glen.

An estate stay is the best way for a group to see the Highlands. Six to sixteen people under one roof, with a cook, a ranger who knows the hill, a ghillie for the river, and nobody else in the house.

We match the estate to the group: who’s coming, how far you want to drive, whether you want a river, a boat or a beach. Then we plan the days.

Before you choose

What to know.

Who it suits

Multi-generation families, groups of friends, a big birthday. Usually six to sixteen people.

Where

Deeside, Perthshire and Speyside within reach of Edinburgh, Aberdeen or the sleeper; and a few on the islands, on Mull and Harris.

The people

A cook or chef, housekeeping, a ranger, a ghillie. Some estates have a boat and a skipper.

Stalking and shooting

Never assumed. Many estates offer it in season; we plan walks, wildlife, fishing and boats unless you ask.

Lead times

Summer weeks for the good houses book a year or more ahead. Spring and autumn are easier.

Getting there

For the grandparents: we choose estates within reach of an airport or the sleeper, and arrange the transfers.
